Symbol of Run Lola Run.

A Symbol in Run Lola Run would be the spiraling effects: some examples of this are shown in the animation at the beginning of the movie where we are drawn into the clock. Another example of this is the staircase to Lolas apartment, also the roulette wheel in the casino that Lola bets on is shown when the ball is rolling around before landing on the roulette wheel. and finally the last symbol in the film to do with spirals was the quote the security guard made about both the film and the game- Football. This spirals used in this film symbolise the continuation of life, and it also shows that everything is interconnected, the little things you do when you encounter a person can change their life. The spirals also symbolise the circular narrative, which is repeated 3 times throughout the entire film. i quite liked the idea of the symbol in this film, it actually makes sense. whereas the Smashing glass symbol does not make any sense at all.. i mean who cares if she can smash glass when she screams... thats not anything spectacular! but it obviously implies she has the power to change her destiny.... i was always told that every single person did..?

14 August- Run Lola Run.

In Run Lola Run, i think the sequence in the Casino shows they main idea of fate, as when Lola bets the last of her money she has on a chip and plays roulette. once she won $3600 she then bet it all again on the same number and then wins over $100,000 in less than 2 minutes. whilst the ball is spinning on the roulette wheel, Lola screams and doesnt stop until she sees the ball land on her number, this demonstrates the fact that she seems to be able to control her own fate... which i think is totally rediculous, but i guess thats just fictional storys for you.

In the novel The people you meet in Heaven, there are two key quotes: Beginnings are also endings, in my opinion i think this means that although one part of your life ends for example schooling, another part of your life is beginning, e.g. entering the work force. This therefore creates a life cycle, and although your life may end, you never know what may be beginning for your "spirit", that is, if you believe in that sort of thing. The other key quote is: No story sits alone, i think this means that everybody's life storys seem to inter twine into each other, meaning that no story is alone as other storys are involved amoungst that one at some point in time.( if that makes sense haha).
So far i am really enjoying this book, i think it may be a bit short for a read? i mean i could easily read this book in a few hours if i didnt have any other things to do. But i am looking forward to reading this book to see what sort of story twists it brings in.

Thursday...

The idea of controlling time does not really appeal to me as in all the films you see this happening, one tiny thing changes everything. also it does not seem to do anybody any good by going back to the past and changing things, so i dont think i would change anything in my past.... maybe just some self inflicting mistakes i made...

The most important characteristics of Lola would be her dertermination because without her determination she would not have tried so hard to get money to save Manni, and she would not have ran all over town to eventually win 100,000 in a casino in what apparently is two minutes. another important characertisic of Lola is her strong will and her rebelious appearance, as her strong will and her appearance shows what type of person she is. obviously she is a sort of rebel, you can easily see this in her wild red hair and her guyish type clothes. her strong will also shows you that she is such a strong character- this goes with her determination. Also an important characteristic about her would be her "power", without this she would not be able to smash glass with her piercing scream, nor would she have been able to win the money in the casino to save Manni, and proberbly not be able to save the security guards life.

The key ideas in the film are the ideas of Fate, and what little things that hapen can change the outcome of not only one persons life, but those that encounter that person. for example: On part two of the film Lola runs down the stairs and instead of running faster past the boy and his scary seeming dog that growled at her, the boy tripped her up and she fell down the stairs, and could not run as fast for a while due to the limp, then when she bumped into the old woman carrying her baby, in the flash backs after Lola is sworn at you see that instead of the woman meeting her fate and losing her baby to child services and then dying in a car accident, her fate changes and she then instead wins the lottery and becomes a millionare. What i do not understand in this point in the movie is how Lola being tripped down the stairs changes the fact that the woman does not die and lose her child, she then wins the lottery?!!! how does that work?! Also another key idea is the idea of love, the fact that Lola and Manni stick together and still want to be together even tho Lola sees after being shot in the red filtered dream sequence that the last thing he said to her in it was do you want to leave me?, before she died, and it started again she said no i dont want to leave, this gives the idea that love conqors all. no matter what trouble Manni and Lola seem to get into during the movie they still want to be together, in two out of the three outcomes of this movie they stayed together until one died. Something i do not understand is why neither of them cried, or why Lola didnt scream? she just holds his face without saying a word. would you want to tell the person you love them while watching them die in the middle of the road?! I WOULD!

In the movie Run Lola Run, I don’t like the style of narrative techniques that the director- Tom Tykwer used. As the repeating of the story 3 times and seeing the smallest things change just seem utterly ridiculous. Also I did not like the flash forwards of insignificant people in the movie as it does not seem to make any sense. I mean who cares that some woman with a baby ends up becoming rich by being bumped differently, slightly later and then instead of calling Lola a bitch, she calls her a stupid cow and a fucking bitch. I really do not see the point in this movie. It is completely unrealistic to the point that it is just stupid!! It gives the impression that if you make a bad choice in a movie you end up waking up after being shot and it starts all over again. What kind of example is that setting us? Although I do like the movie in German much better than English. I think the characters speaking German sounds a lot better as it is not so polite, where as in German Manni sounds more desperate. Besides the German language sounds cool to listen to haha!- wow this is so long!!!! it would have been longa but i forgot wat i was talking about.
